The table set itself.
There is a particular kind of French confidence that expresses itself through the absence of ornament — the zinc bar top, the bentwood chair, the white cloth dropped over a small square table and left to do its work without apology. These antique French linen tablecloths are exactly that. Forty-three inches square, woven from a fine, lightweight plain-weave linen that drapes with the easy authority of cloth that has been used and understood. The single decoration is a hemstitch border drawn thread by thread around the perimeter — precise, unhurried — with mitered corners that reveal the hand of someone who knew what they were doing.
No monogram. Which is, in its way, a kind of freedom. They belong to no particular household and can therefore belong to yours entirely.
Two of them. Which is the right number.
Laundered, aired, and pressed at Hemlock House. Ready for a table you care about — café, kitchen, garden, or otherwise.
