A magnificent antique French Limoges porcelain charger, hand-painted in the grand decorative tradition of the late 19th century. Bearing the prestigious Tressemann & Vogt (T&V) backstamp — one of Limoges’s most celebrated porcelain houses — and signed by artist J. Guter, this exceptional piece exemplifies the height of American-market Limoges decorating at the turn of the century.
The expansive 18” surface showcases a lush still life of multiple grape varietals — deep Concord purple, rich burgundy, and golden-green — rendered with remarkable skill against a softly graduated warm ground. Individual grapes are modeled with dimensional brushwork that gives the composition a luminous, three-dimensional quality. Broad, naturalistic vine leaves frame the scene with fluid, confident strokes.
The shaped Rococo-revival border is heavily gilded with raised scroll and foliate molding in excellent condition — bright and substantial, with minimal wear consistent with careful ownership over more than a century.
Artist signatures on T&V Limoges chargers of this caliber are uncommon, and significantly elevate the collectibility of the piece.
