This exquisite antique French tea kettle (spirit kettle) is a testament to the craftsmanship of the Belle Époque era. Manufactured in Paris by the renowned workshop of Ernest Dumont (marked "E.D. Paris" with the distinctive swan/crane logo), this piece dates to approximately 1890-1910.
The kettle features a beautifully embossed body with spiral fluting. While currently presenting a warm, authentic, hundred-year patina that highlights the underlying metalwork (appearing as antique copper), this piece is, in fact, silver-plated. This rich, untouched patina developed over a century preserves the item's historical integrity. It sits elegantly on a highly decorative cast brass stand in the Rococo Revival style, complete with its original spirit burner. The handle is crafted from expertly turned wood, creating a sophisticated contrast with the metal elements.
Condition and Restoration Potential:
This item is sold in "as found" condition, with a complete, untouched patina (a combination of tarnish on the silver plate and oxidation). It is a perfect centerpiece for a vintage-inspired kitchen or a collector of fine French metalware in its current state. However, for those who prefer a polished look, after processing with appropriate silver cleaning agents, the kettle can be restored to a brilliant, "as new" silver finish, as the underlying silver plating is expected to be well-preserved beneath the patina.
Approximate Dimensions (see measurement photos):
• Overall Height (to top of handle): ~32.0 cm / 12.5 in
• Total Width (spout to handle edge): ~21.5 cm / 8 in
