item :
splendid polychrome hard-paste porcelain sculpture with a glazed finish, depicting a soldier in field uniform from the famous bataillon de neuchâtel. The work is signed under the base with the mark of the prestigious german manufacturer sächsische porzellanfabrik potschappel von carl thieme and dates to the second half of the 20th century. The triangular plume on the headdress and the extraordinary expressiveness of the pose are notable for their excellent workmanship: the soldier is captured in a moment of repose after a long march, crafted with meticulous attention to the smallest details.
artist and/or manufacturer information:
the sächsische porzellanfabrik potschappel von carl thieme manufactory represents one of the most illustrious and refined names in the history of dresden artistic porcelain. Its production has always been synonymous with artisanal excellence, renowned worldwide for its opulent style and the microscopic precision of its sculptural and pictorial details. Founded by carl thieme in 1872 in potschappel, near dresden, the manufactory is historically associated with the tradition of "dresden porcelain." the mark stamped on the base of this sculpture, introduced in 1902, features the characteristic intertwined letters "s & p" (or "sp"), surmounted by a wreath and often accompanied by the word "dresden."
final considerations on the subject:
the bataillon de neuchâtel was an elite swiss unit established by napoleon bonaparte in 1807. Known as the "canaries" due to their distinctive and striking canary yellow and blue uniform, the neuchâtel soldiers distinguished themselves for their absolute loyalty to the emperor. The corps fought honorably in several crucial european campaigns before being definitively disbanded with the fall of the napoleonic empire. This piece has an attribution mark,
