Eight is the number that means it.
Four napkins is a dinner party. Eight is a household that took the table seriously — that understood a meal as an event worth dressing, that considered the weight of linen in the hand as much a part of hospitality as what went on the plate. These eight antique French linen dinner napkins came to us from a Martha's Vineyard estate, the collection of a woman whose eye for beautiful domestic objects was, by any measure, extraordinary.
The weave is a geometric damask — a small, precise check pattern worked directly into the cloth, visible only as a shift in light across the surface. The kind of textile intelligence that reveals itself slowly, and rewards it. White. Crisp. The monogram FT is rendered in the bold interlaced cipher style of the Parisian linen houses of the 1930s, when the monogram was still understood as a serious design problem, given to someone who knew how to solve it.
Twenty inches square. Hand-hemmed edges. All eight identical, all eight excellent.
Put them on a table you care about.
