This remarkable piece displays an extraordinary … Read more An exceptionally decorative and finely cast Art Nouveau plant stand dating from approximately 1880–1890. This remarkable piece displays an extraordinary level of casting quality, featuring richly detailed chestnut leaves, chestnuts, blossoms, vines and flowing naturalistic ornamentation throughout the entire structure. The elegant organic design is characteristic of the finest late 19th-century Art Nouveau craftsmanship, where nature served as the primary artistic inspiration. Particularly noteworthy is the exceptional casting execution. Even the smallest floral and foliate details are rendered with remarkable precision, depth and clarity, demonstrating the high level of skill employed during manufacture. Such quality is increasingly difficult to find today. The stand retains traces of its original silver-toned finish, which gently emerge through the beautifully aged surface. Over more than a century, the piece has developed a rich and highly attractive patina that enhances both its authenticity and decorative appeal. A foundry mark or impressed casting mark is present; however, despite research, it has not yet been conclusively attributed to a specific manufacturer. Nevertheless, the quality of workmanship suggests production by a highly accomplished European foundry of the late 19th century. with its sculptural presence, superb proportions and outstanding botanical ornamentation, this plant stand represents a particularly fine example of Art Nouveau decorative ironwork from the period circa 1880–1890.
