This striking Italian maiolica vase reflects the enduring influence of Renaissance artistry and craftsmanship. Dating from the early 20th century, the vase is richly decorated with hand-painted pastoral scenes featuring shepherds, livestock, classical figures, and picturesque landscapes set against vibrant blue skies and architectural backdrops. The colorful decoration and dramatic form evoke the grand decorative wares produced in Italy during the Renaissance while offering the warmth and character that make antique ceramics so appealing today.
The vase is beautifully modeled with a bulbous body, flared neck, and distinctive winged putti mask handles that project from either side. Executed in richly glazed earthenware, every surface is covered with finely detailed painting in vivid shades of blue, green, gold, and ochre. The sculptural handles and continuous figural decoration create a piece that is equally impressive viewed from any angle, making it a wonderful display object for a cabinet, shelf, or tabletop.
The vase is in nice antique condition. There is a hairline crack to the foot that was stabilized long ago with a traditional staple repair, a method commonly used on valuable ceramics before modern restoration techniques. The repair is visible upon inspection, and there is expected glaze wear and minor surface imperfections consistent with age and use. Despite these signs of age, the vase remains structurally sound and displays beautifully, with exceptional color, presence, and decorative appeal. 10h x 9w x 6d
