Elegant Chinese terracotta funerary figurine modeled in the classic tradition of a standing court lady or attendant from the Tang Dynasty. Statues of this type, traditionally known as mingqi (spirit objects), were placed in the tombs of ancient Chinese nobility to accompany and serve the deceased in the afterlife.The figure is sculpted standing in a poised, formal posture with her hands subtly clasped beneath her long, draped robes. She features the distinctive high-waisted dress fashion of the imperial court and is crowned with an elaborate, towering coiffure/headdress characteristic of high-status women of the era. The face is delicately modeled with a serene, stylized expression.The surface displays an authentic weathered patina, featuring a light buff clay body with extensive traces of white slip residue and encrusted soil texture that replicate a centuries-old excavated appearance. This exceptional piece makes an outstanding decorative statement for collectors of Asian antiquities, Chinoiserie, or historic ceramics.
