Description: an exceptional, authentic antique Chinese hand-carved wood figure of a seated ancestral scholar or deity, dating from the late Ming to the Qing Dynasty (17th–19th Century). This rare piece is a beautiful surviving example of Chinese devotional folk art, traditionally commissioned for family shrines, lineage halls, or local village temples.The figure is depicted as a dignified scholar or magistrate seated in a formal stance, wearing traditional wide-sleeved court robes (hanfu) with hands clasped together in a respectful, meditative pose.The statue is carved from a single piece of hardwood and features an exquisite aged patina. It retains beautiful, visible fragments of its original gold leaf gilding over a dark underlying lacquer and gesso layer.
