A fine French trench art - bayonet gueridon - cocktail or wine table from the late 19th century (La Belle Époque period).
The long, slender supports are authentic French service weapons - Model 1874 Gras bayonets, traditionally affixed to a soldier's rifle for hand-to-hand combat.
Their characteristic T-section steel blades serve as the structural legs, while the hooked quillons (the projecting arms that form the cross-guard of a bladed weapon) and wood/brass handles form the ornate tripod feet at the base.
The table features a circular polished wooden table-top anchored to a smaller matching wooden stretcher base that stabilizes the bayonet hilts.
These unique novelty side tables were popular in Europe as nostalgic and functional forms of folk art following late 19th-century conflicts - notably, the Franco-Prussian War and World War I.
The flat part of each bayonet blade bears an engraving with the name of the producing armory and the year of production.
Makes a great side table or collector's item for a military or history enthusiast.
