Crafted from wrought iron (hierro dulce), the piece features a rich aged patina that enhances its character and authenticity.

The composition incorporates many traditional symbols associated with the Passion of Christ: a dove representing peace and the Holy Spirit, the sun and moon symbolizing the cosmic events surrounding the Crucifixion, the Sacred Heart, the ladder used to lower Christ from the cross, Longinus' spear, and scales representing justice, good and evil, and the Final Judgment.

Known for embedding personal reflections into his work, Hermosillo often used the direction of the dove and subtle facial expressions within the sun and moon to express his view of the world and the balance between hope and darkness.

A beautiful and highly collectible example of Mexican folk art and handcrafted metalwork.
