Robsjohn-Gibbings for Saridis … Read more A sculptural pair of rare mid-century modern neoclassical klismos benches in the manner and style of T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings for Saridis of Athens. The walnut frames are large measuring nearly 3.5 feet long. Each chic bench features four dramatically swept saber legs of solid polished walnut sweeping outward in the classic Greco-Roman taste. The corner blocks are accented by a protruding end of the wood joinery, creating a small carved medallion accent. The seats are hand-woven in an open lattice basketweave of hand-twisted rope, looped and lashed around the apron rails. The rope is thick and tactile, contrasting the smooth carved and turned wood. The classical pair is crafted in a mid-century neoclassical style after similar pieces made by T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings for Saridis of Athens. The walnut frames are sturdy having solid joinery and craftsmanship. The rope has a desirable aged patina as seen in photos.
