a charming and increasingly rare set of seven french decorative plates produced by the renowned sarreguemines pottery factory during the late 19th century.

made in terre de fer earthenware and decorated using the transfer-printing technique, each plate features a different scene combining wildlife, birds and flowering plants in delicate polychrome tones.

the series is known as flora and fauna and includes a variety of naturalistic motifs such as a wolf, wild boar, hare, hunting dog, duck and several species of birds, each framed by seasonal flowers, woodland plants and pastoral landscapes.

the reverse bears the mark of u & c sarreguemines. The design was originally introduced during the late 19th century and is today considered one of the more uncommon natural history series produced by the factory.

the plates have been fitted with discreet wire hangers on the reverse and are ready to be displayed as a decorative wall arrangement.

an exceptional decorative ensemble for a country house, hunting lodge, victorian-inspired interior or collector of french transferware ceramics.
