Probably French, dating from the 18th century, this devotional sculpture once formed part of a larger crucifix. The figure displays a remarkable historic patina acquired over centuries, with visible remnants of original flesh tones, blue and red pigments.

The finely carved face, flowing hair, and elegantly draped perizoma reveal the hand of a skilled craftsman and give the sculpture a powerful spiritual presence. The natural wear, minor losses, and traces of age contribute to the authenticity and character of the piece.

Today, beyond its religious significance, the sculpture works beautifully as a decorative object in a curated interior, cabinet of curiosities, wabi-sabi environment, or collection of folk and sacred art.
