Splendid pair of sculptures depicting a turkey and a turkey hen, made of glazed, patinated, and entirely hand-decorated stoneware. The work bears the autograph signature "Guido Cacciapuoti," engraved directly into the ceramic body with a metal nib, certifying the direct authorship of the famous Italian master. The pair is distinguished by its extreme plastic expressiveness and a rigorous execution of the highest artistic standard. In twentieth-century ceramic production, poultry, and turkeys in particular, represent one of the rarest animal subjects, almost exclusively depicted by Cacciapuoti and very few other artists; for this reason, these models are today exceptionally rare and highly sought-after on the art and collectors' markets.
Information on the artist and/or factory:
Guido Cacciapuoti, born in Naples on August 11, 1892, descends from a historic and illustrious dynasty of master majolica makers, where he learned the secrets and traditional techniques of ceramic art. In 1927, he moved to Milan, where he founded, together with his brother Mario, the company "Grès e ceramiche d'arte." An extraordinarily talented modeler, he quickly attracted critical attention for the expressive power and modernity of his sculptures. In 1930, following the untimely death of his brother, he assumed sole leadership of the company. Under his direction, the factory achieved immediate critical and commercial success, gaining widespread international fame thanks to the sculptures modeled by Guido himself. Having passed away in 1953, Cacciapuoti is today unanimously recognized as one of the most important and influential Italian ceramic masters of the first half of the 20th century. The final photos also include historical information about the factory and biographical information about the artist, for customers who wish to learn more. This piece has an attribution mark,
