Good condition considering its age and use, some wear to the gilding

An elegant inkwell or writing set created by the French ceramist Jacob Petit around the mid-19th century.

The piece features a central platform in a pastel turquoise blue, flanked by two circular receptacles for ink and drying sand. In the center are four small holes for quill pens. Behind these rises a finial in the shape of a scallop shell or seashell, which crowns the piece. The body above the piece is colored in a salmon tone, matching the shell, and is further decorated with a frieze of painted leaves and flowers. The base has been gilded. The artist's signature, J. P., is located on the inside of the piece.
