The series includes portraits titled sweetbryer, sweetwilliam, pericles, and mr. Micklethwait's hunter, each carefully rendered in profile against a rural english landscape. Together, these prints form an attractive visual record of the horses that embodied the elegance, athleticism, and prestige associated with british equestrian culture during the early victorian period. The prints were drawn on stone by h.b. Chalon, one of the foremost animal and sporting artists of his generation, and printed by the celebrated london lithographer charles hullmandel. Chalon was widely admired for his ability to capture the beauty and character of horses with exceptional anatomical accuracy, while hullmandel's workshop produced some of the finest lithographs of the nineteenth century. Their collaboration resulted in a series that combines artistic refinement with historical significance. Each horse is portrayed individually, allowing viewers to appreciate the distinctive conformation, musculature, and bearing that made these animals notable examples of their breed and purpose. The restrained landscape backgrounds provide depth while ensuring that the horses remain the primary focus of each composition. Such portraits were highly prized by owners, breeders, and sporting gentlemen, serving both as decorative works of art and as records of valuable bloodstock. Although these horses were not pure arabian horses, several display the refined features and elegant profiles associated with arabian bloodlines. This influence reflects the origins of the thoroughbred breed, which traces its ancestry to foundation stallions imported from the middle east. The resulting combination of arabian refinement and british breeding produced some of the most admired horses of the nineteenth century. Displayed together, the four prints create an impressive gallery wall arrangement, offering both historical interest and strong decorative appeal. They are ideal for collectors of equestrian art, racing memorabilia, sporting prints, and country house interiors. This offering is for original nineteenth-century lithographs, not modern reproductions. Any framed room visualizations are intended solely to illustrate potential display options and may not accurately represent the prints' exact scale relative to the frame or interior setting. Condition: age-related toning, foxing, and occasional staining throughout. Marginal wear, including small tears, losses, creases, and handling marks, consistent with age and former binding. Several sheets show more pronounced edge wear along the upper and lower margins. The images themselves remain attractive and well preserved. Please study the photographs carefully. Framing tips: these prints display exceptionally well as a group in matching dark walnut, ebonized, or traditional mahogany frames with warm ivory mats. A narrow gilt liner can provide a refined sporting appearance while emphasizing the rich tonal qualities of the lithographs. Particularly suitable for libraries, studies, country houses, hunting lodges, and equestrian-themed interiors. Technique: lithographs maker: h.b. Chalon (england), printed by charles hullmandel, london, circa 1840. See less
