designer giotto stoppino (vigevano, 1926 – milan, 2011) italian architect and designer, a student of ernesto nathan rogers, he graduated from the iuav university of venice and the polytechnic university of milan. In 1953, he founded the architetti associati firm (novara, 1953–1968) with vittorio gregotti and lodovico meneghetti, through which he carried out projects ranging from architecture to urban planning to design, including the cavour armchair in bentwood for sim. One of the leading figures of the neoliberty movement and among the first italian designers to work systematically with plastic, he collaborated with kartell (the 4670 magazine rack, 1971), acerbis international, and other manufacturers. A member of adi (association for industrial design) since 1960, he served as its president from 1982 to 1984. The cobra chair, created in the mid-1970s, is among his most recognizable pieces and regularly appears in auctions of postwar italian design.
