A statement piece from R&Y Augousti, the Paris design house Ria and Yiouri Augousti built on a single obsession: turning humble, exotic materials into objects that belong in a hotel lobby. Their first collection went to the Hôtel de Crillon. This is cut from the same instinct.
Hand-laid coconut shell marquetry — hundreds of pointed-oval tiles in warm butterscotch, set against black lacquer in a tight tessellated lattice. The form is a tapered ovoid with a rim sliced on the diagonal, so it reads differently from every angle: solid and architectural from one side, leaning and almost figural from the other. The fine veining across the shell tiles is the material doing what it does — part of why no two pieces are identical.
Signed on the underside with the gold Augousti maker’s mark, Paris, Philippine atelier production.
A piece for someone who wants one bold object instead of ten quiet ones.
