Antique carved wood cherub (or angel, putti, or cupid), a piece of architectural salvage purchased at the Paris flea market in the 1980s. The angel is hand carved of oak and dates to the 1600s. It's a lovely piece of baroque sculpture, probably from a cathedral.
This is an old rustic piece, with some cracks in the wood, nail holes, and missing chunks of wood. It has undergone repairs on the legs; on the right leg, you can see some wood filler on the underside and a crack with glue on the thigh. The left leg is harder to detect, but there's a more modern nail on the side and split running up from the inside of the knee. Note that both breaks are only noticeable on close inspection from the back.
Still, the cherup is in sound condition and is fitted with a large eye hook for hanging vertically on the wall. The back is marked with the collector's acquisition number.
