The painting … Read more This vintage 1960s oil painting of a seascape by David Crespi depicts crashing waves against a rocky outcropping. The painting is in an impressionist style and is rendered in blues, greens, brown and white on a stretched canvas. It has volumetric brush strokes that create an energetic 3-D effect on the waves. It is signed “CRESPI” in the lower right corner. It is stamped on the back by a Las Vegas, NV, art gallery.
David Crespi (1928-1992) was a respected artist and a Professor Emeritus of Art at Southern Connecticut State College (1969-1974). Born and raised in Florence, Italy, his work includes winterscapes, village scenes and seascapes. Exhibitions of his work include the Northern New York Art Exhibit and at Columbia University.
The frame of the painting is wood with the appearance of a double frame. The wood is painted in a bronze gold color with an inner mat of linen fabric. The outer edges of the frame measure 18” by 16”. The exposed area of the painting is 9-1/2” by 7-1/2”. See less
