Offered for sale is a beautifully executed vintage mid-century cross-stitch needlepoint textile art piece depicting a grand European villa or manor house estate. This vintage piece features a multi-story architectural subject detailed with deep brown bay-window extensions, a classic yellow-columned facade, an elevated terrace, and stylized landscape trees framing a stone courtyard.
This piece is a completed, unmounted textile canvas measuring approximately 23.5 inches by 12.5 inches. The sides feature raw canvas margins showing natural vintage aging, and the short ends are finished with a classic self-fringe border. The meticulous hand-work is clearly visible on the reverse side, displaying high-quality, uniform tension throughout the stitches.
Provenance & Historical Attribution:
This item was acquired out of a private New York estate collection (held 1953–2021) via V.N. Collectibles Auction House. The original auction house cataloging attributed this piece as a traditional regional embroidery associated with the Lemberg (Lviv) region, dating to circa 1941.
While the architectural layout represents a classical European civic estate or grand residential villa rather than a traditional house of worship, the piece carries a rich family history. It is highly probable that the design represents a nostalgic rendering or regional estate pattern cherished by a family originating from the Lviv region. We are passing along this fascinating collected provenance to the next caretaker exactly as it was documented.
