A rare matched pair of antique architectural window shutters featuring hand-forged iron jali latticework set within substantial hardwood frames. Retaining their original hinges, latch hardware, handles, and key escutcheons, these pieces display the rich patina and craftsmanship associated with traditional architectural forms found throughout the Middle East and South Asia.
The pair was acquired from the collection of a Wyoming artist, designer, and international antiques dealer known for sourcing unusual architectural artifacts during her travels abroad. According to the provenance provided by the previous owner, the shutters were acquired in the Middle East and were believed to have originated from a private residence where they served as privacy screens, allowing airflow and filtered light while shielding occupants from outside view. This history has not been independently verified and is offered as provenance rather than documented fact.
The hand-forged ironwork exhibits the irregularities and character associated with traditional blacksmithing. The hardwood frames retain traces of historic paint, weathering, oxidation, and age-related wear accumulated over decades of use. Original forged hardware remains intact, including strap hinges, latch mechanisms, handles, and decorative escutcheons.
Today these pieces function beautifully as sculptural wall art, architectural accents, wine cellar décor, fireplace flanking elements, headboard installations, or statement pieces within Mediterranean, Moorish, Spanish Colonial, Rustic European, and collected-global interiors.
