Rustic, handcrafted ceramic from Apulia, Italy.
Originally used as a storage container, it also makes a decorative vase. Simple design and glaze with subtle color gradients.
Imperfections and signs of use are part of the authenticity of this storage container.
The "ceramica rustica" from Grottaglie is characterized by its special glazing techniques. The potters in Grottaglie have always remained true to their traditions.
In the old, wood-fired kilns, which were in operation until around 1960, the firing process was never entirely controllable and regularly produced surprises. If the temperature was too high, for example, the colors of the glaze would run – an effect that contributes to the charm of this ceramic and no longer occurs naturally with today's precisely regulated gas or electric kilns.
