Light-bodied terracotta covered with a glossy white glaze, cylindrical shape with straight walls and an unglazed base.
A simple, utilitarian silhouette that focuses all attention on the hand-painted decorative elements. The decoration unfolds around the circumference with alternating motifs: on one side, a stylized rooster with outstretched wings, outlined in dark brown on a white background with subtle celadon blue highlights for the foliage and the suggested pools of water at the base; on the other, a flower with concentric petals, drawn in a naive and graphic style reminiscent of Mediterranean folk art.
The lines are firm, concise, and confident, characteristic of Barbier's work, trained at the Geneva School of Fine Arts in the studio of Philippe Lambercy, who championed liberation from utilitarian constraints.
