Signed “C. Graffart” on the base, dated 1950, and numbered 3/3, this is an extremely rare piece from the most influential artist of Belgium’s most celebrated crystal house.

Founded in 1826 in Seraing, Belgium, Val Saint Lambert earned an international reputation for the quality of its crystal and the skill of its designers and cutters. By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the firm had become one of Europe’s leading glass manufacturers, exporting its work around the world and earning acclaim for both traditional crystal production and innovative artistic designs.

Charles Graffart (1873–1967) was one of the most important figures associated with the company. Although widely known for his mastery of crystal cutting and Art Deco designs, Graffart also produced unique and highly artistic works that often fell outside standard catalog production.

A stunning and important piece that looks as modern today as when it was created more than 75 years ago.
