A Mathieu Matégot Rolling Bar Cart. France, circa 1955-1956.
Painted metal. Wave-pleated top apron in perforated metal, surrounding a top trefoil-perforated metal sheet, with a lateral handle in brass. Legs and lower shelf in tube painted metal, supporting a glass lower tier. On casters (fully functional).
Hungarian-French designer Mathieu Matégot (1910-2001) was a pioneer among the mid-century modern artists, especially for his industrial-style design and his original use of perforated sheet metal, which he molded into sleek, functional and elegant creations, like this bar cart.
Very good condition. Some discoloration present due to age and use. Fully functional casters.
