An investment-grade acquisition for serious ephemera and design collectors, this is an original, 1973 hand-pulled silkscreen (serigraph) movie poster produced in Havana, Cuba, by the celebrated ICAIC (Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos). Designed by the prominent Cuban master graphic artist Luis Vega (b. 1944), this poster was created for the island's theatrical release of the 1971 psychological thriller Terror Ciego (internationally titled See No Evil or Blind Terror, starring Mia Farrow).
ICAIC posters are globally celebrated as a high-art movement, discarding commercial Hollywood tropes to treat film promotion as a canvas for vanguard graphic expression. This piece stands as a stellar example of 1970s Latin American Pop Art, cleverly adopting a sequential comic-strip structure with action sound effects ("POV," "CRISS," "BANG") directly inspired by the mid-century comic book aesthetic of Roy Lichtenstein.
The visual focus centers on the film's primary suspense element: the stalking antagonist’s black cowboy boot emblazoned with a white star. Signifying its artistic and historical importance, copies of this exact silkscreen print are preserved in major public archives, including the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met).
Reflecting the authentic material realities of the Cuban workshop era, this poster is hand-pulled using rich, heavy oil-based inks on the highly sought-after thin, porous paper stock. The pigments have deeply saturated the paper over the decades, leaving a beautiful ink bleed-through profile visible on the reverse side—the definitive hallmark of a true 1st-edition handmade Cuban serigraph. These were ephemera and made in small batches, with many originals lost to time.
Condition: Good (G) to Very Good (VG) Vintage Condition
Condition Details: This original, unrestored Cuban silkscreen displays beautiful, authentic hallmarks of its mid-century workshop production. Printed on the island's historically accurate very thin paper stock, the heavy screenprinting ink has partially saturated the paper, making the vibrant paint layers visibly evident from the reverse side—a key identifier of an authentic, hand-pulled print.
Notable condition factors include generalized edge wear, creasing, and minor chipping along the right-hand margin. There is a small area of paper loss in the lower-right corner. The screenprint ink itself remains wonderfully vibrant, heavy, and saturated with rich color retention and zero major surface fading. Free of any dry rot or heavy staining. Highly recommended for professional framing or canvas linen backing, which will expertly flatten the marginal creases. Please examine the high-resolution photos closely to inspect the paper thickness and edge details prior to purchase.
