An exceptionally rare original 1973 Cuban screenprint (silkscreen) cinema poster designed by Eduardo Muñoz Bachs, the undisputed master of the golden age of Cuban poster design.
This piece was created for the ICAIC (Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry) to promote the Cuban release of the Soviet film Los trece valientes (The Thirteen Valiant Ones).
Bachs’ signature style is on full display here, utilizing an intensely striking, high-contrast palette. The graphic features two heavily stylized, overlapping hands bound by a soft blue chain, set against a deeply saturated textured black background. Original posters by Bachs from the early 1970s are premier collector's items, celebrated worldwide for their bold graphic genius and scarcity.
Condition: Fair vintage condition. Unframed. This poster shows significant signs of age and wear to its fragile, authentic vintage paper stock. Most notably, there is a prominent horizontal tear on the upper right side that extends through the white margin and into the black background field. The top left corner shows heavy creasing and a minor fold/tear. Light handling wear and age-toning are present along the remaining borders. Despite these structural flaws, the central graphic area is remarkably bold, clean, and visually powerful. Professional conservation, linen-backing, or careful archival framing will easily stabilize and dramatically minimize these defects.
