An authentic, highly collectible 1973 original Cuban screenprint (silkscreen) documentary poster designed by the celebrated graphic artist Antonio Pérez González (better known as Ñiko).
This poster was created for the Cuban documentary short Escuela en alta mar (School on the High Seas), directed by Luis Felipe Bernaza and produced by the ICAIC (Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry).
The poster features a stunning, minimalist pop-art design depicting a stylized, brightly colored fish looking up at a geometric sailboat riding the curve of the ocean horizon. The text of the credits cleverly forms the line connecting the fish and the boat. True to the mid-century Cuban poster movement, this piece is hand-silkscreened, giving the ink a rich, tactile layer that stands out beautifully against the paper.
Condition: Fair to Good vintage condition.
Details: Unframed. This piece is printed on authentic, porous vintage Cuban paper stock and shows clear signs of age and history. The central graphic remains vibrant and bold. Notable flaws include a visible 1/2-inch vertical tear along the top white margin (above the letter "L"), some micro-tearing and handling wrinkles along the right outer edge, and overall light tanning/spotting to the unprinted borders. The back of the poster shows authentic ink bleed-through from the manual printing process. These minor defects can be easily minimized or completely hidden with professional archival matting and framing. Ships rolled.
