A crimson macaw commands the left side, while a large blue-grey parrot occupies the right, and smaller red parrots appear between them among orchids, pansies, and yellow tropical blooms. Because no section of the ground is left bare, the composition reads as a deep, fully inhabited scene rather than a motif against a background. No piping or border trim.

Woven into the fabric as a jacquard textile, the birds, flowers, and foliage carry color and tonal variation that comes from thread placement alone rather than any surface treatment. Jacquard weaving allows individual thread groups to carry different colors across the repeat, which is what produces the color depth visible in the feather detail and the layered botanical field. Against the dark ground, both the warmer reds and yellows and the cooler blues and whites in the composition read with strong contrast. Not printed; the entire composition is woven directly into the fabric structure. See less
