This striking, original 1965 intaglio print (etching) is a highly collectible work by the esteemed German-American fine artist Robert Ernst Marx (1925–2020). Marx is a celebrated figure in mid-century printmaking, and his original etchings are permanently held in the prestigious collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, and the Hirshhorn Museum.
Titled "Child alone w/ flower", this piece is hand-signed, dated '65, and numbered in pencil along the bottom margin. It is an exceptionally rare pull, numbered 6 from a strictly limited edition of only 30 prints ever made (3/30). The artist's masterful use of heavy black ink, aggressive cross-hatching, and the deeply embossed, naturally skewed plate mark serve as the ultimate tactile proof of an authentic, hand-pulled print directly from the artist's studio.
The Premium Framing
This investment-grade artwork has been entirely rehoused to meet modern museum standards. It is presented in a brand-new, sleek black profile gallery frame with wide, acid-free crisp matting that perfectly isolates and elevates the moody aesthetic of the print.
To ensure absolute preservation and a flawless viewing experience, the piece is sealed behind premium Tru Vue Museum Glass. This top-tier archival glass provides 99% UV protection to protect the vintage paper, while its anti-reflective coating makes the glass practically invisible, allowing the viewer to fully appreciate the raw texture of the etching. The back is professionally finished with a sealed dust cover, protective wall bumpers, and heavy-duty wire, completely ready to hang.
Styling Notes
With its intense monochromatic palette and raw, emotional linework, this piece is a powerful focal point. It perfectly complements texture-driven Wabi-Sabi interiors, moody architectural spaces, or eclectic gallery walls needing a strong dose of high-contrast, museum-quality character.
