Known for … Read more Victor Saglier (1809–1894) was a master goldsmith in Paris, a politician, and an importer of English Minton porcelain. Known for his Art Nouveau silverware, he created shaped pieces for Majorelle and Gallé. He produced objects in enameled glass, gilt metal, and numerous pieces of silverware. Upon his death, the business was acquired by his brothers Eugène and André, who continued its production until 1948.

This rectangular box with a hinged lid is made entirely of repoussé and chased silver-plated metal. The lid features a densely embossed design: a ribbed fan motif radiates diagonally, surrounded by scrolling acanthus leaves, flowering stems bearing roses and florets—all animated by a centrifugal movement characteristic of the Rococo style. The sides repeat the same pattern of scrolls and florets against a background of oblique gadroons.

The interior surface is made of wood. The edge bears the rectangular VS stamp with a ship, a mark authenticating the production of Victor Saglier between 1840 and 1894. This piece has an attribution mark,
