These views originate from the celebrated French voyage literature of the early nineteenth century and were engraved after drawings made during scientific and exploratory expeditions to the Pacific. The three scenes portray different aspects of Hawaii's remarkable natural environment: Volcan de Kai-roua – an evocative depiction of an active Hawaiian volcano, with smoking vents and fiery geological formations illustrating the volcanic forces that shaped the islands. Vallée Vaipou – a picturesque valley enclosed by steep mountains and lush tropical vegetation, capturing the fertile landscapes that impressed early European visitors. Chute du Voonai-Rokoa – a scenic waterfall cascading through a rugged volcanic landscape, reflecting the dramatic topography and abundant water sources of the Hawaiian archipelago. These engravings were published during a period when Hawaii remained one of the most fascinating and remote destinations in the Pacific. French explorers, scientists, and artists documented the islands' landscapes, people, and customs, bringing knowledge of Polynesia to European audiences. The refined line engraving technique conveys both the grandeur of the scenery and the romantic spirit of nineteenth-century exploration. Today, early views of Hawaii are highly sought after by collectors of Pacific exploration, Polynesian history, volcano imagery, and antique travel prints. Displayed together, these three prints create an impressive visual narrative of the Hawaiian Islands before modern development transformed the landscape. This set consists of original antique engravings printed in 1836. They are not modern reproductions. Any images showing the prints framed are for visual inspiration only. The prints are supplied unframed. Condition report: Good condition for age. Light age toning and occasional minor foxing as expected. Paper remains strong and clean. Please study the images carefully. Framing tips: These prints display beautifully as a triptych in matching dark walnut, ebonized, or museum-black frames with warm ivory mats. A thin gilt liner adds elegance while complementing the delicate engraving work. Hanging the three together creates a sophisticated focal point, particularly in coastal, tropical, or travel-themed interiors.
