this dramatic oil on canvas depicts christ on the cross with extraordinary emotional intensity — the muscular body illuminated by masterful chiaroscuro, clenched fists conveying raw suffering, and a luminous halo against a dark, atmospheric background. Executed in the tenebrist tradition of the seville school, this work shows the unmistakable hand of zurbarán’s workshop or a very close follower. Notable details include the period monogram “t” or "f" on the base of the cross, finely rendered wounds, and the original inri parchment.
