Original hand colored wood engraving, framed of July 15, 1882 issue of Harper's Weekly features a detailed color woodcut illustration of Thomas Edison's experimental electric railroad at Menlo Park, New Jersey. Accompanying the image is the article, "An Electric Railroad," which describes the train's innovative technology and passenger experience during the early development of electric transportation.
Founded in 1857 by Harper & Brothers of New York, Harper's Weekly was known as "A Journal of Civilization" and remains one of the most important illustrated publications of 19th-century America.
