Peter Hunt reimagined vintage and antique furniture and accessories during the 1940-60s in his studio in Provincetown, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He is considered the founder of a genre of folksy painting with its root in Pennsylvania Dutch traditional motifs of hearts , tulips, etc.
This piece, although unsigned, exhibits all the hallmarks of a Hunt original including the reuse of vintage wood, strong and confident brushwork, favorite motifs and the faux painting of the frame.
