Brodtmann was among the pioneering masters of lithography in Europe and became particularly admired for his highly detailed depictions of animals and exotic species. In this composition, the Andalusian horse is presented with exceptional elegance and movement, shown in a spirited pose with raised foreleg and flowing tail. The rider wears colorful traditional attire, adding a sense of romanticism and Southern European character to the scene. The delicate hand-coloring enhances the refined shading and anatomical precision of the lithograph, while the minimal landscape setting keeps full attention on the horse and rider. The Andalusian horse, historically associated with Spanish nobility and classical riding traditions, was admired throughout Europe for its intelligence, agility, and noble appearance. Prints such as this were highly sought after during the Romantic period, when interest in exotic breeds, equestrian culture, and natural history illustration flourished among collectors and scholars alike. This original early 19th-century lithograph combines scientific observation with artistic sophistication and displays beautifully as both an equestrian subject and decorative interior piece. It would make an excellent addition to collections of antique sporting art, equestrian prints, natural history illustration, or Spanish-themed interiors. Condition: Good overall condition with age-related toning and minor scattered foxing. Original hand-coloring remains vibrant. Wide margins preserved. Framing tips: Displays exceptionally well in dark walnut, black lacquer, or lightly gilt frames paired with a wide ivory or oatmeal mat. Its elegant equestrian subject and soft coloring make it particularly suitable for libraries, country houses, riding clubs, or refined classical interiors. Note: This is an original antique Lithograph, not a reproduction. All items we offer are authentic period works of art over 100 years old. The piece is sold unframed; any framed images are shown for presentation and interior inspiration only and may not always be to scale.
