An extraordinary, museum-quality ceramic basin vase, representing a highly significant and rare example of the early career of the legendary Italian sculptor Pietro Cascella (1921–2008). The piece bears the coveted early incised signature "Casc. Roma" at the base, dating it precisely to the late 1940s. Before achieving international fame for his monumental stone sculptures, Cascella established a pioneering ceramic workshop in Rome (initially in Via della Rosetta, later moving to Valle Giulia) alongside his brother Andrea and Anna Maria Cesarini. This early Roman period was characterized by a brilliant exploration of the ceramic medium as a canvas for post-cubist and expressionist forms. The vessel features a robust, architectural silhouette, acting as a bridge between functional pottery and pure abstract sculpture. The textured glaze and structural presence reflect Cascella’s early obsession with primordial, totemic volumes. This piece is an invaluable document of post-war Italian avant-garde art, highly sought after by institutions and high-end collectors of 20th-century art history. This piece has an attribution mark,
