We are being conservative with the 1800s date but this could very well be earlier..

On hand is an endearing hand carved wooden santos figure with remnants of polychrome paint and gesso layers throughout. The arms are missing but their joints location is in tact—with one side even holding onto its pin. The face's carving is excellent and even with the missing nose tip it still portrays the depth of his character. Every way you turn it there's something to admire, from the remnant paint, to the patina, to the carving techniques and construction. We also love its size; it's big enough to make a presence, yet small enough to place easily on a mantel, side table, shelf or such. It could more easily be integrated into a decor. As to its origin we are estimating European.

Please note that the head which is held by its wooden pin/peg in the back slightly moves.
