A captivating and highly textured mid-century mid-impressionist floral still life by Long Island artist Helen Botway.( American 1900 - 1992) This vibrant composition features a sprawling bouquet of rich red and magenta bougainvillea bursting from a classic black urn-style vase. Botway expertly employs a thick impasto technique, using dynamic palette knife strokes to give the foliage and petals a dense, sculptural dimension. The fiery, organic energy of the flora contrasts beautifully with the structured, cool-toned geometric background, rendered in fractured shades of slate blue, cream, and pale yellow. This piece is an exceptional example of Botway’s signature post-war impressionist style, celebrating color, movement, and tactile paint application. Presented in its original, unframed state on board. The paint surface remains stable with rich, well-preserved coloration and strong impasto peaks. The painting is signed by the artist lower left.
