An exceptional and wonderfully scaled late 19th-century Ottoman footed colander, hand-hammered from heavy-gauge copper. Originating from the Anatolian region, this authentic antique utility piece features a striking, highly sought-after "two-tone" patina. The original silver-toned interior tin lining (kalay) has beautifully weathered over more than a century of use, revealing the warm, rich orange copper tones beneath.
Boasting a commanding 12.5-inch diameter, the bowl sits atop a flared pedestal base and is flanked by heavily cast, ornate rustic metal handles secured with thick, hand-pounded rivets. Each drainage hole was individually hand-punched by a coppersmith, giving the piece a gorgeous, irregular "wabi-sabi" texture.
With its massive proportions and sculptural silhouette, this primitive vessel makes a spectacular, soulful statement piece for high-end rustic, European farmhouse, or eclectic interiors.
Perfect Styling Ideas
A dramatic centerpiece bowl for a kitchen island or dining table filled with artichokes, citrus, or dried botanicals.
