An ironstone toothbrush holder in the Aesthetic Taste, made by Bridgwood and Clarke at The Churchyard Pottery Works – Burslem, Staffordshire, England, circa 1857-1864.
Charming in its simplicity, the ‘Orchid’ pattern exemplifies the Aesthetic Movement philosophy of “Art for Arts Sake.”
Transfer printed in sepia on a creamy white ground, cylindrical in shape with a ringed footing and upper rim.
A floral pattern showing an orchid plant in a basket, finished with geometric bordering to the upper rim and circling the base.
Central banding in a twig form trellis running pattern.
Perfect for holding a small bouquet of flowers as well.
5.5 inches high x 3.5 inches in diameter.
Makers mark with the pattern name.
A short, faint hairline, not a crack, to the interior, not seen on the outside, otherwise in very good antique condition.
