An original antique illustration from the famed French magazine La Vie Parisienne, featuring a delightful and highly imaginative Art Deco composition by Vald'Es. Vald'Es was the collective pseudonym used by two French artists: painter and illustrator Louis Denis-Valvérane (1870–1943) and stage designer/painter Georges d'Espagnat (1870–1950). Titled "Une Innovation: Le Meuble-Vêtement" ("An Innovation: The Furniture-Garment"), the illustration humorously imagines fashionable women wearing furniture-inspired couture creations. The witty caption below suggests that since fashion designers are dressing women in increasingly less clothing, perhaps upholsterers should begin dressing them instead.

La Vie Parisienne remains one of the most celebrated illustrated publications of the Belle Époque and Art Deco eras. Individual interior illustrations featuring fashionable women, cabaret culture, and Parisian social satire have become highly desirable decorative works, particularly when framed as standalone art pieces. La Vie Parisienne was a French weekly magazine founded in Paris in 1863 and popular at the start of the 20th century. Originally it covered novels, sports, theater, music and the arts. In 1905 the magazine changed hands and the new editor Charles Saglio changed its format to suit the modern reader. It soon evolved into a mildly risqué erotic publication
