An original antique back cover from the celebrated French magazine La Vie Parisienne, featuring the striking satirical illustration "Le Péril Rouge... ou la Nouvelle Europe" by renowned French artist Charles Herouard (C. Herouard).
This captivating image depicts a fashionable Parisienne dramatically tossed by a charging bull, rendered with Herouard's signature blend of elegance, humor, and social commentary. The composition is distinguished by its bold orange-and-black palette, dynamic movement, and sophisticated draftsmanship, all hallmarks of the golden age of French illustration.
Created during a period of profound political and cultural change in Europe, the work humorously references contemporary anxieties surrounding the so-called "Red Peril" while maintaining the wit and glamour for which La Vie Parisienne became internationally famous. The result is a visually arresting and historically fascinating piece that functions equally well as fine art and social commentary.
Original La Vie Parisienne covers and back covers are increasingly scarce and highly sought after by collectors of French illustration, Belle Époque and Art Deco graphics, fashion history, and antique paper ephemera.
A dramatic statement piece for libraries, studies, salons, and interiors inspired by French, eclectic, or European design.

La Vie Parisienne was a French weekly magazine founded in Paris in 1863 and popular at the start of the 20th century. Originally it covered novels, sports, theater, music and the arts. In 1905 the magazine changed hands and the new editor Charles Saglio changed its format to suit the modern reader. It soon evolved into a mildly risqué erotic publication.
