The most charming landscape still life, painted in 1939. It features a vibrant autumn landscape with a sparking stream, birch trees, and fiery fall foliage. The execution of the brushstrokes and composition are very well done, and just lovely. The best part about this piece is the handwritten note on the back by the artist. It reads: "Painted about 1939, by Geraldine Halten Merritt - at Dallas Art Museum, Dallas Fair Park, where I took lessons. Instructor provided by W.P.A. (?) Public Works Project of President F. Roosevelt. Free lessons, but you provided or paid for materials. Rode Bus (or street car?) there for 6 cents! (Included transfers if needed to reach your destination.)"
