Kéralouve is a trademark of boch la louvière, a belgian manufacturer whose history dates back to 1844. Under this name, they market pieces in the style of their historical art deco production—specifically, those from the era of charles catteau, director of the decoration workshop from 1907 to 1946.
this line operates under several trademarks: boch frères, royal boch, boch la louvière, la louvière, and kéralouve. Boch la louvière underwent its first liquidation in 1985, a period from which these reproduction lines were likely developed.
this flared-sided, flat-bottomed bowl is coated externally with a crackled turquoise glaze; the interior features a creamy white background with fine, tightly crackled edges, onto which the polychrome decoration is applied using the high-fire technique. The rim is decorated with a frieze of cobalt blue and pale green bell-shaped flowers on a cream background, punctuated by dark scrolls. The central medallion, bordered by a blue line, depicts two antelopes in motion against a background of rounded cobalt blue and green bushes, surmounted by large blue and green leaves—a decorative vocabulary directly derived from the stylized animal repertoire of catteau and his successors at the factory.
the reverse bears the printed stamp "keralouve / la louvière" framed by rows of triangles, as well as the model number 504 and the initials mc—identical to those found on other pieces from the same series decorated with antelopes. Very good condition. Diameter: 26.8 cm; height: 8 cm.
