Early 19th century Swedish secretary cabinet, crafted in pine and retaining its original hand painted finish. The stylized faux wood painted background is typical of the era, with highlights and tones of burnished red, teal, blue, yellow, and more that have softened through years of use to a warm patina. The cabinet has a unique configuration with two upper cabinet doors, a middle secretary section, and two lower cabinet doors. The upper lock and key function, while the lower cabinet opens with the key used as a pull only and the doors rest in place. Lovely simple carved panels accent the two lower doors, where typical age related separation of planks is visible. The upper doors open to reveal two standard shelves and a third upper notched shelf that would have been used to display family silver serving spoons. The middle section includes three small interior drawers, adding further charm and function. There is no key to the middle desk or secretary section. The bonnet has a lovely curved form and is painted throughout. Staining, cracks, and separation are seen along the interior and back. Nicks, scratches, stains, and cracks throughout are all typical for age and do not detract from the beauty or function of this handsome pine cabinet. Restored strong, stable, and ready to use.
