A richly executed needlepoint after the pastoral compositions of François Boucher (1703–1770), the celebrated French Rococo master and court painter to Louis XV. Boucher's idyllic countryside scenes — populated with rustic mills, wandering figures, and luminous skies — were among the most reproduced subjects in European decorative needlework, and this accomplished example captures the warmth and romantic sensibility of his source material with genuine skill.
The needlework is fine and detailed, with an atmospheric quality that elevates it well beyond the decorative — the cascading watermill, autumnal foliage, and figures at the water's edge are rendered with a painterly touch that rewards close inspection. Marked "François Boucher" on the verso.
Presented in a substantial ornate gilt frame with egg-and-dart molding and a deep brown/burgundy velvet inner liner that adds visual depth and period gravitas. A natural anchor for a Grandmillennial gallery wall, a traditional library, a formal dining room, or any interior that calls for Old World character and warmth.

The frame is also in excellent condition. Handful of tiny dings in the frame have been touched up with gilt paint and you would be none the wiser to know they were ever there.
