This is a classic 1950s bentwood chair is in the style of Bruno Weil for Thonet. The chair has an ergonomically-shaped wood backrest and light blue vinyl covered seat bottom.
Thonet has long been known for its craftsmanship and considered design. The company’s patented wood bending process was an important milestone in creating attractive, yet affordable furniture. Founded in Austria during the 19th Century. Thonet later expanded to the United States in 1941.
Provenance for this specific chair:
This chair is from our family's personal collection. In 2004 we purchased a home built in 1890 in Chicago, IL. This chair was left behind by the previous longstanding home owner. This is such a classic and solid chair; years later when we moved to Austin, TX, we made sure the chair came with us.
